So here we are. Holidays are just around the corner. And for parents as well. Tired, stressed, a year spent taking care of the little ones, not to mention work, necessary to feed them. Choosing the holiday destination should be a period of joy. Nevertheless, some manage to find a cause for concern in this as well.
The choice of the family holiday destination
Indeed, because there are numerous issues, and all with their particular relevance. Children need to have fun, and not be bored, otherwise the holiday can be ruined by whims and complaints. Yet the road to an enjoyable vacation doesn’t necessarily have to lead to an amusement park, resulting in only them having fun. Therefore, an indispensable compromise needs to be found. It certainly does not mean having to bow down to tyrannical children, but also trying to reconcile their tastes and interests, in what must be a family holiday, in which bonds are strengthened and where time to spend together is finally found. Without harassing phone calls, without work shifts, without guitar lessons.
Parents, listen to yourselves and your children. If your secret dream is to visit the Vatican Museums, but your children still admire the thematic channels dedicated to cartoons, there is a clear disconnection; your tastes must meet halfway. And therefore, the exhausting but stimulating holiday in a city of art can wait for, let’s say, more mature times, leaving room for an equipped beach, a residence in the mountains, or a farmhouse in the countryside, which, among other things, can also offer flashes of culture you yearn for, whether in the vicinity of a medieval or Renaissance village.
The choice of the accommodation facility
A hotel with a SPA is a comfortable structure, which has its advantages, but which lends itself little to a holiday with children in tow. Children are not allowed to enter saunas and thermal waters, and therefore you would pay for a service that you cannot use. The half or full board solutions are quite comfortable, because they will allow you to enjoy a dinner with all the comforts of having everything at hand in your room just a few flights of stairs away.
However, you should also take into consideration that dinner will be at set times, usually even with pre-established and fairly rigid menus; an aspect that often does not reconcile with the parents’ needs, especially if their children are very small.
This is why a solution such as an independent apartment is both conceivable and quite comfortable, with a kitchen and minimal equipment for a quick meal.
It will allow you to not always have to eat out, to save on meals, and to have all the conveniences and comforts of a real home. Nevertheless, in order to break the monotony and avoid re-entering the same household dynamics which, perhaps, you hope to leave behind at least for a while, it would be ideal to make sure that there is a good restaurant nearby, giving you the possibility to choose what to do for lunch or dinner.
In parallel, even a bungalow in a campsite or in a village, where you’ll find both a small market for daily expenses, and a pizzeria and/or a restaurant where you can enjoy a family dinner without having to wash the dishes, is an option to take into consideration.
The importance of the quality/price ratio
These are suggestions for all budgets, but only you know your own. So, set a realistic budget, without necessarily giving up on quality which, of course, must be balanced by reasonable rates and adapted to your possibilities. Remember that a holiday also means having lunch on the lakefront, an aperitif in the square and all those leisure and entertainment moments you deserve after a more or less tiring year.
La Sabina as an ideal destination for families with children
The Sabina offers a variety of settings, whether it be the lakeside or rural and bucolic environments, or the mountains. Thus, solutions for all tastes and all seasons, not least winter, with Terminillo which, in recent years, has provided abundant and “skiable” snow.
If children adore animals, take them to an educational farm; if they’re children who only know animals from some cartoon, take them (even more so!) to an educational farm.
The Sabina is full of them, and combine a day out on one of the many lakes that color the geographical map of this area, showing them that, to have fun, there is no need for spectacular plastic slides or who knows what eco-unsustainable contraptions. Show them that mum and dad can also take life calmly and lightly; a holiday that you’ll find in the Sabina area.
