The village of Cicignano...

Cicignano is part of the municipality of Collevecchio , in the Tiber Valley, almost on the border with Umbria. The Sabine village belonged to this region until 1923, the year in which Collevecchio, its hamlets and all of Sabina territory became part of the Lazio Region. Initially assigned to the province of Rome, finally four years later - in 1927 - Collevecchio became part of the province of Rieti, to which it still belongs to today.

The Sabine identity of Collevecchio and its hamlets, including Cicignano, is not difficult to trace: a countryside and hills as far as the eye can see, dotted with precious olive trees . Here, nature reigns supreme; the small historic villages, typical of the Sabina, have a slow pace of life where it is often difficult to count up to two thousand inhabitants. The shops and bars still animate the life of the town today, children play outdoors, the old ladies on the balconies never deny a nod even to occasional visitors. The restaurants and farmhouses prepare typical dishes with local raw materials.

...a small treasure chest on top of a hill

The medieval village of Cicignano, whose origins seem to date back to around 850 AD , has a characteristic circle structure. The small, inhabited area narrows concentrically around the square where the church of SS. Pietro e Paolo, was built in 1488. The main portal, the only access road to the small Sabine village, also overlooks the square.

This small treasure chest stands on top of a hill and its strategic position offers a wonderful 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside, up to a glimpse of the Tiber Valley and Mount Soratte.

Inside the village, walking through the alleys, you will see corners rich in tradition, history and legends where the charm of the past will surprise you and make you experience the feeling of a timeless journey.

Cicignano will reveal itself to you from the moment you arrive as a fantastic place just a few kilometres from Rome and will make you live an unforgettable experience, suitable for both adults and children.
